Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan to raise a voice against alleged irregularities in the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision on Sunday.

Police gave permission for a rally between 10am and 5pm, provided there were no acts of violence or inflammatory speeches.

The demonstration includes the Indian National Congress, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, and other left groups participating in the “Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao rally.

Hundreds of security forces were deployed throughout the National Capital.

The rally was allowed, but denied any formal request for the planned march from Connaught Place.

Opposition leaders travelled in open cars from the Minto Road-Connaught Place junction with hundreds of supporters behind them.

Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Tejashwi Yadav, Farooq Abdullah and Left leaders were among those attending.

The strongest comments came from Rahul Gandhi, who said Gyanesh Kumar would be sacked and put in jail for “treason” after stealing votes.

“The 2024 Lok Sabha elections and several state elections were won through EVM malpractice,“ he added.

Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, also said that Modi and Amit Shah would face consequences for vote chori.

Adding that the demonstration represented the nation’s collective will and would not allow democracy and the Constitution to be ruined.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that BJP governments at the Centre and in Maharashtra, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh were created through stolen mandates.

Kharge also criticised Modi and Shah for protecting Kumar, saying the campaign would continue until Kumar is ousted and urged people to remove Modi to protect democracy.

Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she has been a victim of the SIR and promised that the opposition would continue to fight until they lose power.

Akhilesh Yadav said that

“The Ramlila Maidan was democracy’s Haldighati,” adding that the BJP have topped the list for vote chori despite claiming to be the world’s best party, Akhilesh Yadav said.

They will be thrown out of Uttar Pradesh, and the youth will demand accountability for every act of police against protestors, he added.

Union Minister JP Nadda said the protest was an “orchestrated drama” by parties that have been continually turned down by voters.

The BJP also denied the high turnout, and a Siasat article reported on the reaction with the headline reading “10L didn’t turn up”.
