Malayalam actor Dulquer Salmaan’s latest film ‘I’m Game’ earned Rs 4.25 Cr in gross collections in Kerala, compared to the Yash starrer Toxic, which managed only Rs. 3.75 Cr in the state across its entire first week. While the film’s overall verdict is still not out, the numbers show that the young superstar has managed to pull in more Kerala audiences for ‘Toxic’.
Dulquer Salmaan, son of superstar Mammootty, returned to his home ground after 3 years. His latest film ‘I’m Game’ opened to strong numbers in Kerala, where he has a large fan following. The film also matched Toxic’s per-day collection on September 3, its release day. Yash’s film is currently running on its 10th day and has received mixed reviews since its release.
According to Sacnilk, the highly anticipated Malayalam film earned Rs 5.05 Cr on its opening in the country and Rs 5.00 Cr in gross overseas. Although the collections do not tell the whole story, the coming weekend will be important for the Malayalam actor, depending on how the audience receives the film.
‘I’m Game’ is an action thriller directed by Nahas Hidhayath, who previously directed ‘RDX: Robert Dony Xavier’ (2023). It is one of the most expensive films in Dulquer’s career, with a reported budget of Rs 80 crore. Along with Dulquer, the film stars Antony Varghese, Kayadu Lohar, Kathir, Vinay Forrt and Mysskin.
The film centres on Dan John, a rich spoiled brat hell bent on making money. For this, he turns to gambling and high-stakes sports betting. But his life takes an unexpected turn when he gets into an accident and undergoes a hand transplant. The film blends fantasy elements with thriller elements and stylish action shots. Jimshi Khalid handles the cinematography, while Jakes Bejoy helms the music.
For the actor, this marks his return to his native industry as a lead. His last Malayalam film, ‘King of Kotha’, directed by Abhilash Joshiy, was released in 2023. Although he was away from leading roles in Malayalam, he remained involved in the industry, producing the superhit film ‘Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra’. Salmaan also appeared in a small cameo at the end, hinting at his return in future instalments of the franchise.
