Marvel is bringing the Earth’s mightiest heroes back to the big screen this September. Avengers: Endgame, the second-highest-grossing movie of all time, will re-release with an 185-minute runtime as Avengers: Endgame Encore.
Avengers: Endgame, released in 2019, concluded Marvel’s Infinity Saga, providing a conclusion to all original Avengers.
The re-release took the top spot as the highest-grossing movie of all time. Currently, it is Avatar, which was re-released in 2022 with USD 2.923 billion worldwide.
Records and numbers aside, why are the Russo Brothers re-releasing their most successful film back in theatres?
According to Joe Russo, Avengers: Endgame Encore will bridge the gap between Endgame and the soon-to-be-released Doomsday.
“It’s critically important to re-release the movie, and, in fact, we’ll be re-releasing the film with footage that is set in the Doomsday story that we have added to Avengers: Endgame,” Russo added.
The re-release will include four minutes of new footage, which is crucial to the story of Doomsday.
Fans are excited for Avengers: Doomsday, with the return of Robert Downey Jr. as one of the most famous villains, Doctor Doom. The film will be hitting the silver screen on December 18.
Avengers: Endgame Encore will screen in two formats: regular and Infinity Vision. It is also the first movie to be released through Disney’s Infinity Vision program.
Regular screenings will have about two minutes of new footage. Meanwhile, Infinity Vision and IMAX screenings run over 186 minutes with around four minutes of new footage, an exclusive look at Avengers: Doomsday not shown in regular theatres.
